Why we get Lines around the Nose and Mouth
There are a few different types of lines that form on the bottom half of the face. Nasolabial folds are the creases that are referred to as laugh lines. They typically run from the corners of the mouth to the corners of the nose. Another common problem that we see is marionette lines. These form between the chin and the bottom of the mouth. When we are young, lines from the nose to the mouth can be seen when we smile. When the face is at rest, they disappear. The reason these lines eventually become ever-present is because the underlying structures beneath the skin, the supportive matrix of collagen protein and elastin, not to mention water, break down.
The breakdown of connective tissue sets a few effects in motion. First, the skin thins out. Second, the fat pads that make the cheeks nice and plump fall slowly but surely. This results in flattened cheeks and obvious lines. Additionally, this “falling” effect at some point reaches the jawline, which becomes soft and poorly defined.
