Diagnostic tests are often thought to be uncomfortable. People who need more advanced screening for vein problems often want to know what they can expect. Vein conditions like varicose veins can be painful as it is. Our intention in providing diagnostic testing and treatment is to eliminate discomfort, not cause more. Venous ultrasound, a type of sonography, allows Dr. Lee to observe veins in motion from outside the body. Ultrasound waves create images when they “bounce off” internal structures. The process is painless and it serves as an outstanding guide to vein function and necessary treatment.
What Is Vein Ultrasound Used For?
Vein ultrasound is useful in diagnosing and monitory a wide variety of vein conditions. A patient may benefit from this screening to identify the location and severity of venous insufficiency. Ultrasound is also a powerful tool in the diagnosis and treatment of deep vein thrombosis, in which a dangerous blood clot may have formed in a deep vein. This imaging is also used to guide certain vein procedures to improve accuracy and patient outcomes. Dr. Lee is credentialed by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI). Our office also has a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credentialed by ARDMS and a Registered Vascular Specialist credentialed by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) to perform necessary ultrasound procedures.
Who Needs a Vein Ultrasound?
Patients who come to L.A. Vein Center may be advised to have a vein ultrasound if they show signs of decreased blood flow in various areas. Ultrasound may be performed on a leg, arm, or neck. The screening provides necessary information that may indicate narrowing or a blockage in an artery or vein, a blood clot, or injury to a blood vessel. It can also measure the amount of blood flow circulating through blood vessels. Ultrasound imaging can diagnose or monitor conditions such as deep vein thrombosis, superficial thrombophlebitis, arteriosclerosis, and more.
