Radiesse Los Angeles

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is a synthetic injectable filler that has been FDA-approved to reduce moderate to severe wrinkles, folds and creases around the nose and mouth by augmenting the skin’s natural collagen supply. It is a safe, effective and long-lasting alternative to injectable collagen and other dermal fillers for not only smoothing wrinkles but also adding volume and contour to the face for an overall younger, fuller, smoother appearance. With just one or two Radiesse treatments, you can enjoy a beautiful, natural look that lasts. We invite you to contact our Los Angeles location to schedule your Radiesse appointment today!

Who is a good candidate for Radiesse?

Patients with signs of aging in the lower face are good candidates for Radiesse, particularly those with prominent smile and marionette lines. Also, if you have lines around the mouth and chin, Radiesse is a good choice.

Radiesse is also effective on the backs of the hands (see below). Because Radiesse uses calcium-based microspheres and calcium occurs naturally in the human body, allergic reactions are very rare.

Can Radiesse be used on the backs of the hands?

People forget about the backs of their hands when they think of the signs of aging. But, thanks to sun damage, declining collagen production, and thinning skin, the tendons and veins on the backs of our hands become more and more visible.

Radiesse was the first dermal filler approved by the FDA for use on the back of the hands. This was way back in 2015. It fills out the shrunken look that comes with aging hands, leaving a smooth, natural-looking result. Radiesse also minimizes the visibility of veins and tendons, another byproduct of volume loss. By providing instant volume, plus encouraging the production of new collagen, Radiesse makes your hands look remarkably younger with results that last up to a year.

How long does a Radiesse session take?

Having Radiesse at L.A. Vein Center is a true lunchtime procedure. It takes only around 15 minutes for a session.

Is there anything I shouldn’t do after my session?

The only thing to avoid is rubbing the injection locations. This can make the Radiesse migrate to areas where you don’t want it. Give it 24 hours to settle into place.

How soon will I see results with Radiesse?

Radiesse has two facets of its results. First, the gel and the calcium microspheres provide instant volume to the injection sites. Then, as the body eventually absorbs the calcium, this triggers a boost in natural collagen production. This secondary effect isn’t immediate, but it gives Radiesse its enduring results.

How long does Radiesse last?

Radiesse provides volume to the face and backs of the hands for one year and even longer for some patients.

How is Radiesse different from other fillers?

Radiesse is the only dermal filler that is composed of calcium-based microspheres that have been shown to stimulate the production of collagen. This is different than most natural fillers that only provide wrinkle support with the initial gel, but don’t encourage new collagen production. Radiesses provides instant filling with the gel and microspheres, and then adds another level of volume with new collagen production. Radiesse also is one of only two dermal fillers approved for use on the back of the hands.

Do the injections hurt?

Radiesse is a little thicker than many dermal fillers, so its injection can hurt to different degrees, depending on the patient. But the FDA has approved mixing Lidocaine with Radiesse to alleviate most of this discomfort.

What is Radiesse comprised of?

Radiesse is composed of microspheres in a water-based gel. The microspheres – made of a substance called calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) – stimulate the production of collagen to smooth lines and wrinkles as well as add younger-looking suppleness to the face. Radiesse is made from minerals similar to what makes up our bones. There is no need for pre-treatment allergy testing, and it is absorbed naturally by the body over time.

What areas does Radiesse treat?

Radiesse can be used on many areas of the face and body. Numerous studies have shown Radiesse to be especially effective for filling and correcting smile lines, nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth), marionette lines (from the corners of the mouth to the chin), and other lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. It can also be used to treat depressed scars and oral commissures.

What should I expect at my Radiesse treatment session?

At your Radiesse treatment, Dr. Lee will clean the treatment area and administer a series of quick injections with a fine needle. Treatments typically take 15 minutes and require only local anesthetic. There is little to no downtime; many patients return to their normal activities after their appointment.

Patients typically need only one or two treatments to achieve the full effect of Radiesse. Dr. Lee may recommend a follow-up appointment to determine whether you would benefit from additional treatments.
